ISO 5211 For Valves
April 10, 2024
While we talking about a triple offset butterfly valve with an actuator operated, we can see descriptions such as ” F10 ” ” F12 ” etc, what does it mean? it’s a kind of flange type, which is a description of the connection dimension that valve top flange and actuator in a certain standard
-
Valve Mounting: ISO 5211 specifies the mounting flange dimensions and configuration on valves. These flanges are designed to accommodate the attachment of various types of actuators, such as electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic actuators.
-
Valve Stem Connection: The standard defines the dimensions and characteristics of the valve stem connection interface. This ensures that the actuator's drive shaft can be properly connected to the valve stem for effective control and operation.
-
Valve Types: ISO 5211 is applicable to a wide range of valve types, including but not limited to:
- Gate valves
- Globe valves
- Ball valves
- Butterfly valves
- Diaphragm valves
- Plug valves
-
Actuation Compatibility: By adhering to ISO 5211, valve manufacturers ensure that their products can be easily integrated with actuators from various manufacturers. This compatibility promotes flexibility in system design and facilitates maintenance and replacement procedures.
-
Torque Requirements: While ISO 5211 primarily focuses on the mounting interface, it may also include guidelines or recommendations regarding torque requirements based on valve size, type, and operating conditions. This helps ensure that actuators provide sufficient force to operate the valves effectively.
-
International Standard: ISO 5211 is an internationally recognized standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). As such, it provides a common framework for valve and actuator manufacturers worldwide, promoting consistency and interoperability in industrial applications.
ISO 5211 Dimensions
There are standards that indicate all dimensions for flange, take an example, it mentioned dimensions of a flange in standard ANSI B16.5 & ANSI B16.47, and ISO 5211 include the dimension of part-turn valve top flange dimensions. below table is from ISO 5211, which is detailed dimension:
